Toi & Moi Café

Untangling my scarf from my snow and wind stung face
Wrapping my stiff cold fingers around the warm elixir of my cafe latte
I bang the snow off my boots

The sun is shining through the cafe window
Dancing off my daughters warm chestnut hair
Little sparkles of light beam from her pretty blue irises
She has no idea how beautiful she is

I leave her this day
The tears well up and sneak out the corners of my eyes
I wipe them away and try to smile like I mean it

She tenderly says awe mom and offers her gentle spirit and soft hand across the cafe table

I open my trembling lips to share with her some parting shreds of wisdom
Some lived experience stories
A reminder of her gifts and of how capable she is and special and rare

She reaches down quietly nodding and picks up in her Graceful Gracie way a small bowl off her plate
She extends it towards me and says…

“Have you tried the beans…?”
